Atlascope

Here are a few mapping resources that I’ve come across lately, thought were interesting, and would like to hold onto:

Atlascope – The fine people at the Leventhal Map Center in the Boston Public Library digitized old maps of the Boston area and overlaid them on modern digital maps. Its a fascinating way to learn about the past and I would love to see similar resources developed for the whole country.

A Balkanized Federation – North America split into various “nations” based on “regional fisures traced back to the contrasting ideals of distinct European colonial cultures.” how they were settled and prevailing cultures. It’s fun to read and I sense nuggets of truth, but I also wonder if this sort of categorization has the same faults as a personality test.

ORBIS – The transport networks of the ancient Roman world, because who isn’t fascinated by Rome?
