Another man’s treasure

The other day, I stopped by JPL’s library to pick up a book. Yes, I still go to the library an occasion to get real physical books, and when I do I try to make a point of browsing the shelves to see if anything catches my eye. The librarians must have been doing some reorganization because I noticed all the ultra-large format reference atlases sitting on a shelf right in the front. I could have spent all day sifting through those books. But there was work to do so I satiated myself with about 30 minutes of rifling through the old books. I think my favorite was a 50+year old geologic map of California that contained the base map for a neat piece of art I recently bought. I also enjoyed “The Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies” for no other reason than the delightful title.

Anyways, I’ll be back. I feel like I just discovered a secret that no one else knows about.
